How to improve your lap times in Assetto Corsa EVO
Getting faster is not about driving harder everywhere. It is about finding the few corners where you lose the most and fixing one thing at a time. Here is a method that works with any car and track.

1. Be consistent before you are fast
A lap time you can repeat is worth more than a perfect lap you cannot. Do a series of laps at a pace you control and look at how much your times vary. If the spread is large, work on references (braking markers, turn-in points) before looking for tenths.
2. Pick a reference lap
Compare yourself with a faster driver on the same car and track. A reference tells you where the time is, so you stop guessing. It can be your own best lap, the fastest lap on the leaderboard or the lap of someone a little faster than you (a reference that is only slightly faster is easier to follow).
3. Find the corners that matter
Not all corners are equal. Time gained on the exit of a corner that leads to a long straight is repeated all along the straight, so those corners are worth the most. Rank the corners by time lost and start from the first two or three.
4. Fix one thing at a time
In each corner there are only a few things that can be wrong. Check them in this order:
- Braking point: too early or too late.
- Brake pressure and release: not enough peak, or released too abruptly.
- Minimum speed: too low (over-braking) or too high (running wide).
- Turn-in and line: late turn-in, or too tight at the apex.
- Throttle: back on it too late, or too fast.
5. Change in small steps
Move a braking point by 5 to 10 metres, not 30. After a change, drive five clean laps and compare again. If the corner got slower, go back. Small steps make it clear what works.
6. Keep a short list
After a session write down the three corners you worked on and the one change for each. Start the next session from that list instead of from scratch.
